This toolkit is intended to provide the clinician with a how-to guide and resources for conducting a patient education class on hepatitis C. It is adapted from the collected experience with educational groups by members of the four field Hepatitis C Resource Centers and the National Hepatitis C Program of VA Central Office to develop this resource.

Script

The slide set and script are designed for health providers to use with their patients who have hepatitis C infection or who tested positive for hepatitis C at some time in the past. The class runs about an hour and includes these topics:

• What hepatitis C is, how people get it, and how they don't get it
• What you can do to take care of your liver if you have hepatitis C
• How hepatitis C can be treated.
