PS/PST refers to performance status, which is staged 0-4, as described in section IIIc, above. N and M refer to nodal and metastatic staging, as described in IIIa. HVPG is the hepatic venous pressure gradient, a measure of portal pressure obtained through hepatic vein catheterization (via jugular or femoral vein). An HVPG of 10 or higher defines clinically significant portal hypertension, which is also indicated by the presence of varices or portosystemic collaterals on imaging studies.
