Question 2 of 17
Answer
a. Hepatic stellate cells produce bile
Hepatocytes produce and secrete bile components into the bile canaliculus, a channel formed by grooves on the plasma membrane of two opposing hepatocytes. Bile subsequently drains into the intrahepatic and extrahepatic biliary system and reaches the gut where it facilitates fat digestion. Bile is a mixed micellar solution of bile salts, phospholipids, and cholesterol as well as bilirubin and other solutes. Hepatic stellate cells, when activated by injury produce fibrous tissue.
